Our Commitment to Minor Soccer

How FC Edmonton supports the minor soccer community in Alberta.

Since its founding in 2009 by brothers Tom and Dave Fath, FC Edmonton has made a clear and profound impact on the minor soccer community in Alberta. Growing the game at the grassroots level has always been a clear priority for the club. FC Edmonton advocacy efforts focus on mentorship, promoting healthy lifestyles for children and addressing key issues with the minor soccer community. FC Edmonton partners with soccer and community organizations across our region, focusing on the core components of physical activity, mentorship and family engagement to help provide youth with safe and accessible places to play - a critical need particularly in under-served communities.

Our specific initiatives include:

Alberta Soccer Association: FC Edmonton has an ongoing membership on the Alberta Soccer Association Board of Directors. FC Edmonton is often called upon for advice and support of key minor soccer issues that affect the lives of thousands of youth across the province.

Pro-Connect: FC Edmonton Pro-Connect events are designed to inspire and motivate the next generation of minor soccer players in Edmonton by giving kids the opportunity to learn from the city's best players. This is an exclusive, closed-door event available only to minor soccer teams. Our players share their stories on how they got started in soccer and the greatest lessons they've learned in the game, providing valuable insight into what it takes to be successful in life and soccer.

Minor Soccer-Themed Games: Each season, FC Edmonton ensures a number of its games are allocated to the minor soccer community. Whether we are celebrating “Girls in Soccer” or paying tribute to coaches with our annual “Coaches Night”, the club takes great measures to promote the role minor soccer plays in our communities.

The Pioneer Project: FC Edmonton takes pride in recognizing those pioneers who helped the grassroots game in our communites. We celebrate the builders who followed their passion to impact the next generation of soccer players in Edmonton. The Pioneer Project recognizes minor soccer leaders at our matches throughout the season.

2.) FC Edmonton’s Minor Soccer Community Programs

FC Edmonton’s Minor Soccer Community Programs are events and activities designed to add value to minor soccer groups in their communities by promoting and growing youth soccer in our region. All program events are presented by FC Edmonton (and their sponsors) AT NO COST TO GROUPS. In 2016, FC Edmonton participated in over 100 community and soccer related events reaching over 100,000 people from May - November.

Areas of impact

Match Ticket Fundraising Program: Our Minor Soccer Ticket Program provide associations, zones, clubs and teams a significant fundraising opportunity by providing blocks of tickets at discounted rate so they may re-sell in their community.

b) Community Appearances

c) Skill Development and Mentorship

AMARewards Free Soccer Clinics: U10/U8/U6 boys and girls will build their confidence through learning new skills and discovering the joy of playing soccer. Presented by AMA, FC Edmonton will provide free soccer clinics to over 3000 local soccer players this summer.

FC Edmonton Academy: The club's Academy is proven to train the next generation of Canadian professionals to the collegiate, university and professional levels. At both the U-16 and U-18 levels, the club rivals its development against the likes of Toronto FC, the Vancouver Whitecaps and the Montreal Impact of Major League Soccer.

REX Girls Academy: The REX program serves a vital purpose of developing and preparing young female players for the national and collegiate levels of women’s soccer. Since the program’s transition to Canada Soccer’s EXCEL curriculum from Alberta’s Regional Performance Centre (RPC) this past summer, its influence has never been higher, graduating athletes to a number of Canadian and American universities.
