FC Edmonton Academy began in January 2012 and now in its sixth year, continues to be a fully funded program by FC Edmonton owners Tom and Dave Fath. One of the goals of the Academy is to provide an opportunity for the elite player to focus solely on their individual growth within the playing philosophy of FC Edmonton.

Acknowledging the training and development that players invited into the Academy have already received at the club and provincial level and in following with the Canadian Soccer Association's (CSA) Player Pathway, the goals of the Academy remain to provide an environment for the elite player to reach the next level of the game.  Along with providing the environment for a player to work towards their goal, and FC Edmonton's goal, of becoming a professional player, the Academy also prides itself in the successes we have experienced at placing players into post secondary scholarship opportunities.  Now having academy graduates playing in programs in the NCAA, NAIA, CIS, and CCAA, we continue to explore all academic possibilities for our athletes.

To date, FC Edmonton Academy has graduated twelve players to the first team, with three local players currently holding a squad position within the club.  This past season has seen the growth of Shamit Shome who has become a regular starter and a key member of our Canadian U-20 national team.  Along with Shamit, Academy graduate Amer Halilic has moved to German 4th Div. club FSV Wacker 90 Nordhausen.

Supporting Canada’s national program also serves as a primary goal of the Academy, with seventeen players having now represented Canada at the youth level.  The Academy prides itself on our standing within the Canadian player development landscape, and continues to work closely with CSA technical staff to ensure that we are continuing to offer our Academy players every opportunity to represent Canada on the international stage.

In maintaining the Academy’s position in Canada’s development pathway, the club continues search for opportunities with local stakeholders to improve the game and provide a pathway for Edmonton’s elite player.
