Feb 13, 2017

EDMONTON, AB - FC Edmonton announced, Monday, the return of veteran centre back Albert Watson for the club’s 2017 North American Soccer League (NASL) campaign. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Watson, 31, is one of the NASL’s longest serving players with a single club, having joined FC Edmonton for the 2013 season. To date, the Belfast native has made a club record 111 appearances across all competitions.

“I’m delighted that we have brought back Albert this year”, FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller stated. “Albert is well thought of within the league, he is an out-and-out, honest and hardworking defender, who does his job well.”

Watson returns to centre FC Edmonton’s back line that led the NASL in goals against in 2016. The team allowed just 21 goals in 32 regular season matches en route to a semifinal appearance in The Championship—the league’s four-team postseason tournament.

“Albert is a leader that gives absolutely everything in practice and during every game,” Miller added. “He is a terrific professional and he will remain a very important part of FC Edmonton this season.”
