Khattab, born in Norway, moved to his hometown club of Kvik Halden FK in 2016 after four seasons with Bryne FK of the Norwegian second division. The 27-year-old scored nine goals in 96 appearances in his four years with Bryne.

“I think he’ll be a strong addition to our squad,” FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller stated. “He’s an attack-minded, left-sided central midfield player who’s scored goals in his past and played at a good level in Norway.”

Khattab is the second offseason signing for the club to have played recently in Norway, with defender Netan Sansara arriving this past weekend in Edmonton after a move from Fredrikstad FK.

“Sabri is really keen to come across to Edmonton and I think the change will do him good. It’s a fresh challenge for him and I know he’s very excited and very professional in his approach. I’m very happy that Sabri has decided to join us.”

Eustaquio adds another Canadian connection to FC Edmonton after spending the last three seasons in the nation’s capital with Ottawa Fury FC, where the 23-year-old had two goals and an assist in 47 appearances.

“I’m very happy and excited to be working with Mauro,” Miller said. “He’s Canadian and I’m quite sure he’ll be looking at FC Edmonton, as hopefully most Canadians are, as a great stepping-stone back into the National Team program. He’s at a terrific age, he’s desperate to learn and has a great attitude.”

Born in Nazaré, Portugal but moving to Leamington, Ont. at the age of one, Eustaquio has eight appearances and one goal for the Canadian U-20 & U-23’s.

“I spoke to a number of people about Mauro and obviously we’ve had the chance to go against him in the past,” Miller added. “We’re well aware of his quality and I think he’ll be an upgrade for us in the middle of the park.”
