That April 8 second match of the season ended in Jacksonville’s second-consecutive 1-0 win over the Eddies to begin the campaign thanks to a seventh-minute Zach Steinberger tally that held on to be the winner at the end of 90 minutes. The loss would be the second of three 1-0 defeats to the Armada this season for the Eddies, with this Friday’s visitors also winning one-nil back on Canada Day in Florida at Hodges Stadium.

The Eddies are coming off the back of defeat last Sunday, having nothing to show for a strong effort at home against the San Francisco Deltas. The Armada’s loss against Miami FC that same day snapped the club’s four-game road unbeaten run in NASL play, their longest such streak in team history.

“It’s been one of those weeks where the players deserved more than what they got out of last Sunday,” FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller said of his side’s loss to the San Francisco Deltas. “So now you have to try and lift the spirits again and have them go hell-for-leather on Friday night.

“To be fair the players have responded well this week. We know we’ve made the job that much more difficult after having lost on Sunday, but the door is not firmly closed yet. We have to do all we can to get maximum points out of these remaining six games and we’re at home.”

Prior to winning three-straight one-goal matches against the Eddies, the Armada were held scoreless against FC Edmonton in the previous three fixtures (0W-2L-1D). But Jacksonville  hasn’t been able to find the net recently as they look to prevent themselves from making it four-straight matches without a goal after scoring eight in their previous three prior to that stretch.

Both sides currently find themselves on the outside looking into the NASL’s postseason picture, with the Armada a point behind the coveted fourth and final playoff spot while the Eddies sit nine back in seventh place with a game in hand on Jacksonville. If the Eddies are to find some late season momentum, winning their final two matches at home will be vital after winning just one of their past seven at Clarke Stadium.

Striker Tomi Ameobi remains out for the Eddies along with Karsten Smith due to injury. Winger Dustin Corea will miss Friday’s match after being called up to the El Salvador National Team side that faces Canada on Sunday in Houston at BBVA Compass Stadium.
