As an El Salvador international playing in Canada with FC Edmonton, winger Dustin Corea swapped sides and came out victorious in a 1-0 win over Canada on Sunday, October 8 in Houston.

It was the 25-year-old’s first international appearance with La Selecta since January of 2016 against Armenia, coming on as a second-half substitute and helping his country defeat Canada in front of a less-than-partisan crowd at BBVA Compass Stadium. Corea has made a total of 16 appearances for El Salvador and scored one goal that came against Costa Rica in a 1-1 draw at the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

“I’m always glad to go back to the National Team and always happy to play with the guys,” Corea said of his return to the international stage. “I’ve known them for a long time since my youth days. I was just excited to be back and here’s hoping for more calls.

“It’s been a while like you said, but it’s always a great experience especially when you’re in Houston where we have that passion and support. I’m always trying to contribute as much as I can on and off the field.”
